Despite the worldwide piracy that’s affecting the film industry the year 2009 was still a good year for many actors and actresses and of course the people behind the camera. I’ve compiled a list of the best films of the previous year in no particular order.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the 6th installment in the Harry Potter franchise. It’s the most anticipated film in the series up until the release of the 7th and last of the series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which is a two part film. J.K Rowling certainly raked in oodles of cash with her 6th book-film adaptation as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince made a worldwide gross of almost $1 billion.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is certainly the most anticipated film of the year, maybe the decade. The success of the film’s predecessor created a huge expectation for the second film and for sure, movie goers weren’t disappointed with the films superb special effects. Michael Bay’s storytelling just makes him the best in the field of directing and makes his films a must watch movie.
The Hangover is a rarity. It’s not often heard that a story like this film tells us can create such a huge success. The film’s grossing of $467,483,912 worldwide was merely a result of word of mouth marketing. You’ll never stop laughing as the film is flat out funny from start to finish. And what made the film even funnier is the realization how things that really happen to people can be so hilarious from different angle.
Avatar is the very first film to break the $2 billion-dollar mark in gross sales. In fact, it has raked in $2,761,431,600 worldwide and bumped off Titanic from the highest grosser list which it has held for the past 12 years. Both films were directed James Cameron and for sure made him one of the most sought after filmmakers.
Angels & Demons definitely showed that people love to watch conspiracy films. Dan Brown’s first book-to-film adaption The Da Vinci Code (2006) was huge success despite the church’s firm disapproval of it. This sequel was again starred by Tom Hanks who played the symbologist Robert Langdon. And, just like a slap at the face, it was filmed in and around Rome, Italy.
