Thinking of Navy Blue Curtains?

If you are considering a change in color scheme for your window treatments, think about choosing navy blue curtains. Depending on the rest of your room, navy blue is a nice dark color to choose, especially if you don’t want to go as dark as black for your curtains.

Of course, you need to take into account the room you want to make over. If you are using navy blue in the bedroom, you can buy a thicker material and this way the curtains will add a darkening effect and you won’t have to buy a window blind to go with your curtains. Avoid sheer and other thin fabrics that the light passes through easily, unless you like to wake up at dawn’s early light. A denim material or other thick fabric will block out the sunlight and allow you to sleep as long as you like in the morning.

For other rooms , the best choice of material will depend on the setting. A soft and light fabric in navy blue would look great in the kitchen or bathroom. A plaid fabric in this color would work well too. For the living room, there are several different fabrics that offer a more elegant look you might be seeking. Silk or velvet curtains may be a good choice for the formal living room, or a linen or cotton blend may do well for the den or family room.

Navy blue is a color that blends best with cool tones so avoid anything too warm such as peach or bright red. Neutral shades of furniture are best with navy blue curtains. When you go shopping for curtains take color samples of other items with you, to make sure that the various colors in your room will blend nicely.

If you have always thought of trying navy blue for your window treatments, but were afraid it would be too dark, you can always try a patterned curtain with navy blue accents. This will lighten the room up, especially if the curtains are a light blue with a navy design, or maybe even a plaid with other colors besides blue in it.
